DARE to SUP 2015

DARE to SUP 2015

As part of our “character,” Oomama volunteers are fun, adventurous and love a good challenge, so when the idea of doing a DARE fundraiser around the sport of stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) was presented, an event on Lake Ontario became our summer fundraiser in 2015.

Dare to SUP participants were offered the chance to “walk on water” by taking a beginner SUP lesson with a certified instructor. With the event open to all ages, with no experience necessary, our limit of 60 spots quickly filled up.

We were thrilled when Janet Solberg, Senior Advisor with the Stephen Lewis Foundation, and the sister of Stephen Lewis, jumped on board for the challenge.  Janet’s participation brought in greater visibility for our event and her fundraising efforts nearly tripled our original goal with an end result of $15,000 for the SLF.

The funds raised directly supports the grandmothers and community-based organizations in sub-Saharan Africa who are working to turn the tide of AIDS.
