Grandmothers STRIDE TO TURN THE TIDE of AIDS in Africa

9th Annual Virtual Stride Walk in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign

For nine years, Oomama has been involved in Stride to Turn the Tide, a national walk in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

This year two groups, Oomama and Bronte Grandmothers for Africa, have joined together again to do a Virtual Stride from January 12, 2018 to May 31, 2018. As a team, the participants have challenged themselves to “walk” across Canada, counting steps and other forms of physical activity (biking, swimming etc.) in the hopes of covering 17,257 kilometres.

We are travelling from east to west, beginning in Iqaluit in January and finishing in Yellowknife at the end of May.  This cross-country virtual trek symbolizes a journey through all the areas in Canada with Grandmothers to Grandmothers groups that support the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

Most of our walkers have donation pages online for Stride to Turn the Tide 2018, enlisting sponsors to support our efforts to raise funds for the grandmothers and orphans affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa.
