Parenting Expert Barbara Coloroso

On April 10, 2013, Barbara Coloroso spoke to the Oakville community at a fundraiser for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. She focused on society’s progress in dealing with bullying, as well as offering tips for parents and kids on how to avoid victimization.

She addressed cyberbullying, a key concern for many parents, noting that the characteristics of bullying – imbalance of power, the intent to harm, the threat of further aggression, and the creation of terror – are magnified with the use of electronic technologies.

Despite her concerns about the ongoing prevalence of bullying, Coloroso said that she feels positively about the kids who are now in school.  “I am more hopeful of this generation than I am of mine, or the one after me, because in my day hazing was seen as the norm.  We have young people who are saying no to bullying, who are saying this is mean, this is cruel.”

This event raised $31,195.89 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
