All net proceeds go to The Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Fabric items: masks, bags of all kinds, beaded and netted Jewellery, are handmade by our crafty grandmothers.
Oomama's Fundraising Committee organizes events in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) and its work to help grandmothers caring for their grandchildren whose parents have died from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
Consisting of lively and motivated women, the group meets monthly to brainstorm and organize. Subcommittees are then formed to steer each project, but receive the support of all Oomamas when an event is ready to go. It's always exciting and lots of fun!
How is money raised?
Funds are raised through creative endeavours and community events, including craft sales, “Dare” Campaign initiatives, concerts and speaker events.
How are funds used?
Funds are directed to The Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. Since 2003, the SLF has funded over 1800 initiatives, partnering with more than 325 community-based organizations in sub-Saharan Africa.
